Reduced Charges
In many cases, Attorney can persuade the prosecutor to reduce the charges you are facing. This is generally a good outcome for you because a pleading to a lesser offense has the following benefits:
1. A lesser charge means a more lenient sentence from the judge in almost all cases.
2. A lesser offense will carry less repercussions in terms of future employment. An example of this would be pleading to disorderly conduct (a fourth degree misdemeanor) on an Assault or Domestic Violence Charge (both first degree misdemeanors).
3. In many cases, a lesser charge will negate the possibility of an enhanced penalty on a future charge. An example of this would be pleading to Physical Control when charges with OVI/DUI.
Finally, going through a criminal trial is a harrowing experience for most people, so some people prefer the sure thing of a reduced charge to the unpredictability of a trial.
